Hi, this is Katelyn. Victoria already gave the big spiel, so I will keep it short and sweet. Basically, Victoria and I are taking a stab at being film critics. We watch about a film a week for class, so we will probably post at least that often. They may be old or new, on DVD, in theaters, on Netflix, or even on VHS, remember those? IMDb is our best friend when it comes to film, so expect fun trivia! We may do theme weeks set around lighting, setting, genre, etc. If you have any suggestions for us, leave a comment!
Like Victoria, I am a college student in my first year double majoring in Biology and English. I enjoy reading, art, cooking, and crafting. I am a big fan of Disney and Harry Potter, and you will see I made a great effort not to load down my top ten with them. It was a struggle. I dislike ranking things because it seems too final and I am always afraid I will miss something! I did my best, but I am positive I left something out. I have left out the whole Harry Potter series because they are just in a category of their own. I swear, HP is the gateway drug to literature and British cinema.
I am a beater on my university's Quidditch team, but I have tried my hand at a strange collection of things: aerial silks, ballet, track, and golf. I competed in Winterguard International for all of my high school years and I miss it greatly! I love movies, but I never seem to have the time to sit down and watch, but hopefully this will convince me to make time (getting a Netflix account will probably help as well).
Well, I just got done burning random food in lab, so I am still a bit woozy from the fumes. I can't think of anything else at the moment, so I will just stop now.

Welcome!
Welcome to our blog! Katelyn and I are both in a film as literature class in college, and while writing a review for class, Katelyn suggested that we blog about our film opinions. I went from a "That'd be funny." mentality to a "We should totally do this!" mentality in about 5 seconds, and so we set up this blog. We aren't quite sure how we will run it yet, but I'm sure we will each give our separate opinions on different films we watch or have watched previously, sometimes coming together to give our collective opinion on a film we watched together. I was going to wait to write our first blog until we could do it together, but the page looked strangely empty without some writing, and I couldn't bear to leave it that way.
I'll start by telling a little about myself. I am a 19-year-old college freshman majoring in English Literature. I am engaged to a wonderful man named Erik who also has a love for film, music, books, food, and just about anything else you can think of ;). Every now and then, I might do an opinion post in collaboration with him. My first passion in the world of any sort of entertainment is Harry Potter. I've been a fanatic for 11 years now, and I swear I will be for my entire life. I'm also on my college Quidditch team (I <3 Muggle Quidditch!). I love watching movies, and sometimes I'll spend whole days or even weeks during the summer watching films. As you can see from the list at the bottom of the page, my favorite movies are the three Back to the Future films directed by Steven Spielberg. These are also on my dad's list of favorite films, and he and I used to watch them together and tell each other all the trivia tidbits that we thought the other might not know (usually we would just end up finishing each other's sentences). Movie trivia is another thing that I absolutely adore, and you can usually tell I love a movie because I can constantly quote trivia about it (for example, did you know that the slippers in the book version of The Wizard of Oz were silver, but filmmakers changed them to the well-known Ruby Slippers because they wanted to showcase the film's use of technicolor? I get attached to films like I do with books. There are three ways that I can tell if a film should be on my list of favorites:
1.) I learn about it. If I start looking up tons of trivia about the film, learning the names of the cast and crew, or sometimes even researching the historical context of the film itself or its release, then that's usually a pretty good sign that I love the movie.
2.) I watch the film over and over again. If I watch a movie every day for a week and start learning the script, that's usually an excellent indicator that it's one of my favorites. Another thing I do once I start learning the lines from watching it so much is to say the lines with the characters as I watch the film. This particular habit annoys most people I know, which I often find rather amusing.
3.) When I start incorporating the film into my everyday life, either by quoting it to others, relating situations to the film, or singing the soundtrack regularly, then the process is complete and the movie goes on my favorites list. I sometimes drive my friends crazy with the references to some film (or book, I do these things with books as well, even more than films) I make in regular conversation, though several of my friends who feel the same way often enjoy them and join in the referencing and quoting.
